Recently, my husband and I enjoyed a tropical dining experience at Sugar Palm, inside the newly-renovated Viceroy Santa Monica.
The minute one steps into the lobby, they immediately notice the $21 million renovation.
Off the lobby, the sophisticated indoor dining area offers a mid-century feel and opens to an expansive wraparound bar, dining patio and individual cabanas. Outdoor fireplaces and a colorful mural by L.A. artist Evelyn Leigh immediately welcome guests to dine under the towering palm trees.
Sugar Palm’s new chef Jason Francisco grew up on the island of Moloka’i, Hawaii’s fifth-largest island, and traveled to Los Angeles to get his accounting degree.
Not wanting to be in an office all day, he later enrolled in the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Las Vegas, where he began cooking innovative dishes.
His talents
