Francisco de Paula Santander: National Hero of Colombia

Francisco de Paula Santander was one of the leaders of the patriotic forces in the War of Independence of the Spanish colonies in America from 1810 to 1826.

In 1819, Santander became the commander-in-chief of the patriotic army. He participated alongside Simon Bolivar in the Battle of Boyacá and the liberation of Bogotá in 1819.
